Today I knelt to watch the genuflection of the honeybee.
Her little face was buried in the holy flurry of new spring,
legs coffers of gold, weighted with promise.
Perhaps a hundred times she dove into the crocus,
dove, rose,
dove, drank,
dove, nuzzled out the savors of glory,
dove, wings beating with relish,
dove, hovered, unable to resist such bounty
dove, enveloped among the indigos,
silk upon silk.
If her tiny chest beats not wild with praise at such a hymn,
mine will beat for us both,
for men throw branches upon dirty streets shouting, “Make way,”
when we have no such intentions at all.
Yet, the Messiah rides the earth on the back of a donkey,
and on the stripes of a honeymaker.
Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest!
I feel like I should introduce myself. I've been devouring your blog and if you're watching your stats at all it might appear that I'm a creepy stalker. I'm not. I'm just delighted by your writing and I'd been combing through your archives in spare moments before you reformatted.
ReplyDeleteI have one request. You'd posted a story, something for Mosie, about how you went to find him. And I can't find it now. It made me weep for its truth and its loveliness. It made me weep for the kinship I feel with you and Mosie, both. You see, I was also adopted. And my husband and I are in the process of researching adoption for our own family.
I respect what treasured words those must be, and if there's any way you would consider sharing them again, I would be grateful.
Thank you for your blog, your words, your stories, your open heart. I quite enjoy and take courage from them.

Hello Brooke!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I've been absent for a while. I'm trying to finish a thesis, and writing has been on the back burner of late. Is this the story you remembered?
